Name: Tonya Cory
Bio: Tonya is one of our private vocal and piano instructors that has been teaching in the Richmond metropolitan area since 1997. She began playing the piano at the age of 6 years old, and singing in church during her early childhood. Her private study of both piano and voice with incredible instructors only expanded as she began performing in school chorus, acting in multiple theatrical performances, and performing in churches and other venues. Tonya continued her studies beginning in 1992 as a vocal major in Virginia Commonwealth University’s Music department. During that time piano classes also continued to improve her advanced piano skills. During those years of intense study she began accompanying students on the piano during their vocal and instrumental classes, and found that she had a true love of accompanying. She was then hired at The Brandermill Church in Midlothian, Virginia in 1997 playing for occasional services. In the years to follow she would become a youth leader, a choral leader, a worship leader, then finally the lead accompanist for the church, where she is still today. Private instruction also became a passion, that has continued to only grow over time. Over the years, in addition to teaching and accompanying Tonya has performed all over the area, and is a recording artist with her own Great American Songbook album.
